Roses for food

Roses are beautiful — and edible. There are rose petal ice creams, rose petal flavored liqueurs, and many other foods and beverages available. Try these ideas:

  • Using roses can be as simple as sprinkling petals over a cake or a salad or even floating just one petal on the top of a cocktail.
  • Try painting small roses like Pink Gnome or Little Mischief with beaten egg white, sifting powdered sugar over them and letting them dry for dessert decorations.
  • The hips have been used for centuries for jams and jellies and are a very good source of vitamin C.
  • A mixture of chopped rose petals, honey and oatmeal makes an excellent facial scrub.
  • Of course, never eat roses or any other flower that have been sprayed with anything, even if it says organic!
