Potpourris
Making potpourris is a wonderful way to take a little summer along with you into winter.
- Collect your petals and spread them out on newspaper in a thin layer. If they’re too crowded, they will stay moist and begin to mildew.
- A dark room with plenty of ventilation will help keep the color from fading.
- Keep turning and fluffing them for about 7 to 10 days. If you have one, put a dehumidifier in the room.
- After the petals are dry you can add orrisroot, a fixative that will help preserve the petals. Orrisroot is available at hobby and craft stores.
- Adding essential oils is recommended to strengthen and prolong the fragrance. Mixing in spices such as allspice and cinnamon or dried lemon and orange peel will help you create your own special fragrance.
